BRIEF

Lockdown shrinks our world, but here is a brief that will hopefully make you explore it in a different way. Use what you have learnt about comics and 'sequential narrative' to tell a visual story set in or inspired by where you live. You can use any medium to tell your storypaint/photography/illustration/computer graphics. The choice is yours! Just keep it relevant to the narrative and make sure it will look good in your portfolio as a striking image and will be easily understood without a lot of explanation. Youcan either:

1.Start with a person you have seen or imagined seeing near where you live.

-Who are they? Why are they here? How can they inspire a story? Keep

asking yourself questions and the ideas will flow.

-Divide your story into several simple scenes.

-Find a medium on which to tell your story visually- will it be a scale model of your local area? A map? On a pamphlet? Remember to keep the medium relevant to the story!- if it’s a musician you’re writing about can you tell their story on sheet music?

2.Start with an object or space in your local area:

-Find an object or space in your local area where you can see sequences

(i.e. a series of doors or windows/ photos hung on a wall/ items in shop

window/Pages of a pamphlet/beads on a necklace)

-Once you have found your appropriate medium find a story that fits. Put

each scene of the story in a different space. Lead the viewer through your

narrative.

-Remember to keep the story relevant to the medium! Why is that

object/space appropriate to this story?

The Process

At the beginning the point I chose to start with was an astronaut doll, I followed the one point of astronaut and started to explore down the line, identifying related words and trying to expand my thinking. I then looked for some relevant images to collectively picture the situation. Next I followed the mind map to create a picture story about the astronaut (an astronaut who landed on the moon, walked around the planet and left footprints on the moon with his face towards the earth). After the initial formation of the story, I did some more specific research to find some images that fit the picture of my story as a reference. I then completed four sketches and selected one to flesh out, try out the layout and finalise the image.

The design process is as follows

Final outcome

I ended up shaping a picture of astronauts on the moon.

See you in the next blog.😊 luxuan💗 in 2021
